Association of Mouth & Foot Painting Artists (AMFPA)

Minimize

AMFPA is an organization of artists who, due to a physical disability, paint using their mouth or foot. The organization was founded in 1956 at the initative of mouth painter Arnulf Erich Stegmann (1912-1984), and with their motto "Please, no pity", the artists precluded false reactions of critics and the public. Respect for their achievements was demanded.

Through the Association, artists are being offered the basis to secure their own existence and devote themselves to art, free of need and worry. By organizing a wide range of exhibitions, selling original artworks and permitting publishing houses to reproduce their works as greeting cards and calendars, the AMFPA ensures physically disabled artists can achieve self-fulfilment. Furthermore, the Association supports developing artists by granting scholarships, giving them the opportunity to complete an arts education.

There are currently more than 700 mouth or foot painting artists in 70 countries worldwide. In New Zealand there are 3 full member artists, 2 associate members and 16 scholarship holders.

Please note: The Franklin Arts Culture and Library Trust has exhibited the works of these artists and are not the agency who deal with their Greeting Card program or any other projects they have through their association. Please do not use the contacts listed for The New Zealand Steel Gallery or Franklin Arts Culture and Library Trust on this website to try to correspond with the NZMFA(New Zealand Mouth and Foot Artists)- please call them directly for more information.
